LINOLEUM AND VINYL INSTALLATION BOISE
Vinyl, Linoleum, and many of the other hard surface products are the most complicated flooring installs in Boise. The first question I have as a vinyl installer is what is the subfloor, and has it been wet. In the Boise area, primarily particle board has been used widely and when it has, more than 50% of the time, it is a problem. Particle Board, chip board, OSB, all are like a wick for moisture, and when the moisture is absorbed the chipboard, (ect) falls apart. In addition, because it acts like a sponge, it then delivers moisture to floor joists, wall plates, and creates the mold that you hear so much about. If this problem does not exist, and these products on your floor, they need to be replaced because this will be a problem. The only product warrantied by manufacturers is a hardwood plywood. This of course is expensive, and installation is intense because the floor has to be perfect that nothing will telegraph through and show on your new vinyl floor. Baseboard needs to removed and replaced, doorjambs cut, and anything that you cannot put the vinyl under, will need a trim of some kind, or caulked, which quite frankly won't last forever. There are many specs by manufacturers which needs to be followed to maintain warranty. Most Vinyl is sold in 12 foot widths, therefore, measuring the width and length of your room, and then calulating the square footage by the length or width x 12feet and voila, the square footage. This work sheet will give you an idea, but with vinyl, to be accurate, an actual inspection is the only way to sure.
